Customized search engines provide focus and set the stage for students to make judgements more easily about the suitability of search results for their research needs. Teachers begin to make a CSE by identifying a set of preferred web sites on a given topic. Those sites are then listed by the teacher in the search engine construction area. We have created search engines that utilize more than 400 selected sites while others use less than 30. Some samples are at http://www.pembinatrails.ca/infozone/search.htm
